Tinto Summer School<\/a> has been welcoming amazing young people since it started back in 2000. Every year, we get to meet a lovely group of students who enjoy learning music and having fun. It’s always inspiring to see so many bright and motivated young people come together and share their experiences, forming new connections and friendships that often last well after Tinto. We’re also grateful to have a wonderful community of Tinto alumni who continue to inspire us with their success stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We asked Hannah Reynolds<\/strong> a few questions about their time at Tinto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When was your first year at Tinto and how did you hear about it?<\/strong>
2000 – the very first year! I heard about it from a friend who had decided to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did Tinto Summer School impact your personal and professional growth?<\/strong>
I was usually quite shy but I made such great friends at Tinto that I became a more confident person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summer schools definitely improved my skills and confidence as a musician. I heard about lots of other folk workshops, schools, and sessions through the people I met at Tinto, so it really opened up the world of folk music for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What were some of your favourite experiences or activities during your time at Tinto Summer School?<\/strong>
The fancy dress ceilidhs, morning ‘warm ups’ outside when it was sunny, and a Croft no. 5 concert that we went to one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s the biggest thing you took away from Tinto?<\/strong>
I’d never learned tunes by ear before going to Tinto (I didn’t have a lot of experience of trad music), and this became a very useful skill which made music a lot more fun for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have you kept in touch with people you met at Tinto?<\/strong>
Yes! Some of my closest friends are people who I met at Tinto \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What advice would you give to anyone new to anyone starting on their Tinto Summer Journey this year?<\/strong>
Just go for it!! The teachers and organisers are always really supportive, so whatever type of person you are, you will learn a lot and hopefully meet some great friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
