While this could have been a problem, each of the shortlisted albums had considerable support among the judging panel. This was helped by the presence of several really outstanding albums, ranging from the already successful to the much less well known. Similarly, the shortlist contains not only acts at the beginning of their careers, but several who are making their best music many years down the line. It is also really striking that while this is a Scottish album prize, all of these are albums that neither hide nor particularly flaunt their Scottishness: many are the result of collaborations well beyond Scottish borders, and similarly their audiences, and potential audiences, are scattered throughout the world.”

SAY AWARD SHORTLIST 2014 (in alphabetical order)

Biffy Clyro: Opposites
Boards of Canada: Tomorrow’s Harvest
CHVRCHES: The Bones Of What You Believe
Edwyn Collins: Understated
Hector Bizerk: Nobody Seen Nothing
Mogwai: Les Revenants
RM Hubbert: Breaks & Bone
Steve Mason: Monkey Minds in The Devil’s Time
The Pastels: Slow Summits
Young Fathers: Tape Two

The Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) is delighted to announce the shortlist for this year’s SAY Award.
