{"id":15101,"date":"2022-03-28T11:24:39","date_gmt":"2022-03-28T10:24:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/?p=15101"},"modified":"2022-03-28T11:24:39","modified_gmt":"2022-03-28T10:24:39","slug":"hundreds-of-new-gigs-across-scotland-as-live-music-industry-gets-welcome-boost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/hundreds-of-new-gigs-across-scotland-as-live-music-industry-gets-welcome-boost\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds of new gigs across Scotland as live music industry gets welcome boost"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_15102\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15102\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15102\" src=\"http:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2022\/03\/Scotland-On-Tour_H78A6339-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2022\/03\/Scotland-On-Tour_H78A6339-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2022\/03\/Scotland-On-Tour_H78A6339-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2022\/03\/Scotland-On-Tour_H78A6339.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15102\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Matt Hickman of Brownbear helps launch \u2018Scotland on Tour\u2019 at The View, Oban.&nbsp;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">An exciting initiative to support the recovery of Scotland\u2019s live music industry has launched today, with more than 120 artists set to perform at more than 100 venues across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>Scotland on Tour<\/b> will take place over a period of 12 months between April 2022 and 2023, supporting the creation of hundreds of concerts and performances at much-loved arts centres, town halls and community venues across Scotland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The project, which has been created and managed by Active Events, was made possible by \u00a3750,000 of Scottish Government backing and will focus on increasing the number of opportunities to showcase and enjoy live music, while bringing exciting acts to the doorstep of city, towns, villages and rural communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">New gigs will be staged in 25 of Scotland\u2019s local authority areas, from Dumfries and Galloway to the Orkney Islands, with the aim to bolster Scotland\u2019s incredible live music scene and help to aid the recovery of the country&#8217;s creative supply chain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Genre-spanning acts will appear across the breadth and width of the country, with rock, pop, jazz, classical, folk, trad and acoustic genres all being showcased.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The year-long <b>Scotland on Tour<\/b> bill includes both emerging and established artists, with the likes of pop sensation <b>Callum Beattie<\/b>, Scottish traditional music favourites <b>Duncan Chisholm &amp; Hamish Napier<\/b> and singer songwriter <b>Roseanne Reid<\/b> involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The first show will take place Wednesday 6 April when <b>Eilidh Shaw and Ross Martin<\/b> perform at The View in Oban, followed by a show on <b>Thursday 7 April<\/b> that will see <b>Brownbear<\/b> take to the stage at An Tobar on the Isle of Mull.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Tickets for these and a raft of other shows are on sale now at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotlandontour.com\/\"><b>www.scotlandontour.com<\/b><\/a>.<br \/>\n<b>Director of Active Events Lisa Whytock<\/b> said: \u201cThis new initiative is a bold vision for recovery for Scotland\u2019s live music industry and an opportunity for artists, promoters and technical crews to thrive once again. The backlog of postponed and cancelled shows over the last two years has made it very difficult for artists to book new concerts and this is where Scotland on Tour comes in, providing much-needed opportunities for exciting acts to showcase their music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u201cGig goers will also have the chance to see the best of Scottish music right on their doorstep. This will be particularly beneficial to underused venues and rural performance spaces where we will be breathing life back into these fantastic settings.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>Culture Minister Neil Gray<\/b> said: \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to support the live music industry with \u00a3750,000 to fund the year-long Scotland on Tour initiative to boost the sector\u2019s post-Covid recovery.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is a fantastic opportunity for performers and promoters to get back in front of live audiences and for people to back our creative communities by supporting the hundreds of gigs that will take place in venues right across Scotland.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>Matt Hickman of Brownbear<\/b> said: \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to getting back out on tour. It\u2019s been a long time coming! It\u2019s great to see support for regional venues and areas that are often left off the touring circuit.
