{"id":14545,"date":"2021-09-27T11:15:30","date_gmt":"2021-09-27T10:15:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/?p=14545"},"modified":"2021-09-27T11:15:30","modified_gmt":"2021-09-27T10:15:30","slug":"eclectic-programme-unveiled-for-scotlands-singing-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/eclectic-programme-unveiled-for-scotlands-singing-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Eclectic programme unveiled for Scotland\u2019s singing festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-14546\" src=\"http:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2021\/09\/Saanjh-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2021\/09\/Saanjh-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2021\/09\/Saanjh-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2021\/09\/Saanjh.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>An eclectic and inclusive programme has been unveiled for <b>St Andrews Voices<\/b>, Scotland\u2019s singing festival, bringing a breadth of vocal and choral music to the Fife town this October.<br \/>\nTaking place between <b>Wednesday 13th &#8211; Sunday 17th October<\/b> in venues around St Andrews, the festival will showcase performances across a variety of genres \u2013 from classical and folk to jazz and world music \u2013 as it marks a welcome return to live performance post-lockdown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The full programme is available to&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standrewsvoices.com\/festival\"><span style=\"color: #1155cc;\">view now<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #333333;\">, with <b>tickets available to book at 12pm, Monday 27 September<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Themes of pilgrimage and journey will be at the heart of the five-day event, celebrating the process and voyage singers and musicians undertake to come together, explore and share music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">St Andrews Voices will showcase some of the finest singers from across the UK and beyond and incorporate its important community outreach work into the programme with a series of free workshops.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">On Friday 15th October, award-winning and highly acclaimed Scottish jazz singer <b>Georgia Cecile<\/b> will herald the release of her debut album with a special performance from the stunning McPherson Recital Room in St Andrews University&#8217;s Laidlaw Music Centre.<br \/>\nAudiences can expect an incredible audio experience from this magical venue \u2013 the smallest in the world to feature a reverberation chamber in the ceiling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">On Saturday afternoon, the University\u2019s McPherson Recital Room will come alive with the sounds of the exciting collective <b>Saanjh<\/b>, as they create a mesmerising soundscape exploring a woman\u2019s journey through dusk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Blending the atmospheric vocals of <b>Ankna Arockiam<\/b>, <b>Edward Cohen\u2019<\/b>s colourful pianism, and <b>Hardeep Deerhe\u2019<\/b>s virtuosic tabla, this collaborative multi-sensory performance will see cultures and eclectic artistic influences merge to captivating effect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Saturday evening sees celebrated Scottish Gael <b>Mary Ann Kennedy<\/b> complete an epic journey of musical discovery with a stunning concert at Laidlaw Music Centre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The project entitled <b>Triall<\/b> (Gaelic for journey) saw Mary Ann follow in the footsteps of St Columba and complete a pilgrimage that has taken her across the breadth of the country in recent months, from Iona to St Andrews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">This performance will be the culmination of that journey, drawing on the inspiration garnered from choirs and singers along the way. She will perform as part of <b>Aon Teanga<\/b>, a trio from three Gaelic nations with superbly expressive voices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Mary Ann will unite with <b>Ruth Keggin<\/b>, a leading vocalist of the Manx Gaelic revival and young Irish Gael <b>Eoghan \u00d3 Ceannabh\u00e1in<\/b>, to celebrate the cultural connections between sister nations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Sunday afternoon sees a journey of a different kind as world-leading <\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\">Baroque ensemble <b>Dunedin Consort&nbsp;<\/b>take to the stage of St Andrew\u2019s Holy Trinity Church. In the run up to COP26, this commission will<\/span> <span style=\"color: #222222;\">explore music\u2019s relationship with nature and look at how the arts can both reflect and inspire environmental concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\">Journeying between Scotland and Scandinavia, this evocative programme will be under the guest direction of the esteemed Norwegian choral director <b>Grete Pedersen<\/b> and see Dunedin\u2019s a cappella consort perform music by J.S. Bach, James MacMillan and Jan Sandstr\u00f6m, with a new work by Drew Hammond and Isobel McArthur as the centrepiece.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Elsewhere across the programme, notable Scottish baritone <b>Andrew McTaggart a<\/b>nd esteemed pianist <b>Tim Dean<\/b> join forces for their Landscape of Song recital and formidable Glasgow vocalist <b>Christine Bovill<\/b> will stage an intimate evening of French cabaret-inspired song. There will also be performances from <b>St Salvator&#8217;s Chapel Choir<\/b> and a <b>Student Song Concert<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Poignant choral services at St Salvator&#8217;s Chapel include a <b>Festival Evensong<\/b> on Friday 15th October and a <b>Festival Service<\/b> featuring <b>Haydn\u2019s Little Organ Mass<\/b> on Sunday 17th October.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The festival\u2019s prolific community and health engagement programmes will also take centre stage with a <b>Vocal Health Workshop for Singers<\/b>, led by <b>Rachel Hynes<\/b> and a Singing for Health and Wellbeing session, building on the festival\u2019s exceptional work of sufferers of long Covid. Local students will also have the opportunity to attend a singing masterclass with opera singer <b>Lucy Schaufer<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>Amanda MacLeod, Festival Director at St Andrews Voices<\/b>, said: \u201cWe can\u2019t wait to emerge from a sustained period without live performance to present St Andrews Voices Festival 2021.
