{"id":12846,"date":"2019-04-02T10:30:07","date_gmt":"2019-04-02T09:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/?p=12846"},"modified":"2019-04-02T10:30:08","modified_gmt":"2019-04-02T09:30:08","slug":"tracs-celebrate-may-day-and-midsummer-with-opportunities-to-get-involved-plus-insights-into-developing-music-story-and-dance-together-for-a-richer-experience-for-participants-and-audiences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/tracs-celebrate-may-day-and-midsummer-with-opportunities-to-get-involved-plus-insights-into-developing-music-story-and-dance-together-for-a-richer-experience-for-participants-and-audiences\/","title":{"rendered":"TRACS celebrate May Day and Midsummer with opportunities to get involved, plus insights into developing music, story and dance together for a richer experience for participants and audiences."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Exploring Our Voices<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Sat 30 Mar | 2pm (2hrs 30) | \u00a316 (\u00a312 FM) | Music &amp; Song<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are a few spaces left in this accessible workshop with singer&nbsp;Kirsty Law who will highlight your capabilities and voice care, while exploring&nbsp;rhythm, pitch and harmonies.<\/p>\n<p>Whether a beginner, or already a singer, this workshop will help you&nbsp;cherish YOUR voice.<\/p>\n<p>\ufffc<strong>Street Performance for May Day: Musicians &amp; Mummers<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Weds 3, 10, 17, 24 Apr, 1 May | 6.30pm &#8211; 8.30pm | Free | Music &amp; Drama<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Edinburgh May Day parade is less about massed Labour movements than it was, developing as a new force for bringing together progressive organisations \u2013 political, social &amp; cultural \u2013 in the seasonal calendar of renewal and regeneration.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone is warmly invited to join the TRACS band of Mummers as part of the parade for dressing up, music and folk drama.<\/p>\n<p>The Marching Band lead the way with loud acoustic instruments, drummers and percussionists, brass, whistles and accordions, with Guisers decked out in floral garlands.<\/p>\n<p>Arrangements for the procession are more funky than ponderous and all abilities are welcome to get involved in the community, with the rehearsals an opportunity for informal jams and discussion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are well-known marches like Freedom Come All Ye, John MacLean March, Loch Lomond, Banks of Sicily, and Stan Reeves also has some simple Basque, Breton, Portuguese and other European tunes to develop an International flavour.<\/p>\n<p>On the day (Sat 4 May), gather at Johnstone Terrace at 11.30am for 12pm March.<\/p>\n<p>To get ahead with the music, Email Stan or just come along to the sessions!<\/p>\n<p>\ufffc<strong>Playing with Dance<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Sat 6 Apr | 10am &#8211; 1pm | \u00a315 (\u00a312 Forum Members) | Music<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This workshop for intermediate to advanced musicians with&nbsp;Nic Gareiss explores the&nbsp;relationships between moving and sounding bodies in the context of&nbsp;traditional music and dance.<\/p>\n<p>After trying out a little foot music, participants will have the opportunity to play with a dancer one-on-one, fostering conversations around collaboration,&nbsp;listening, and creative connection.<\/p>\n<p>Nic Gareiss is the lead artist for the First Footing Residency delivered by the Traditional Dance Forum of Scotland in partnership with The University of Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p>Dates for your Diary &#8211; Residency Finale Weekend in Edinburgh will feature top talent from 7-9 June.
