The Dunoon Burgh Hall provided a great venue for last weekend\u2019s inaugural Scottish music workshop. Organised by \u00a0the Cowal Fiddle Workshop, \u00a0players came from far and wide to learn from three masters of their crafts \u2013 Alistair McCulloch (fiddle), Mark Duff \u00a0( whistles) and \u00a0Aaron \u00a0Jones (guitar).<\/p>\n

The days were spent learning to improve play and acquire new techniques culminating in Dunoon\u2019s first \u2018Traditional Music Orchestra\u2019 when all the musicians came \u00a0together, directed by the tutors, to play what they had been practising \u00a0in their individual groups.<\/p>\n

On Friday night, the back room of MacClure\u2019s bar \u00a0resounded to the sound of a great jamming session, as participants relaxed over a drink or two. On Saturday night, the tutors, otherwise known as the Alistair McCulloch trio, gave an outstanding concert in the Burgh Hall to showcase their new CD, \u2018Off the Hook.\u2019<\/p>\n

All agreed that the weekend was a tremendous success and found Dunoon \u2018very welcoming\u2019 and the Burgh Hall a \u2018superb\u2019 venue.<\/p>\n

The Cowal Fiddle Workshop in Dunoon (now 30 years old!) is looking for a new Tutor from January 2019 when our long standing tutor Jean-Ann Callender retires.<\/p>\n

It is a post which requires 5 hours of teaching in Dunoon every second Saturday from September to mid-June. There are currently 50 members.<\/p>\n

In addition there is the possiblility of 7 or 8 hours of private tuition.<\/p>\n

We pay full Union rates, and are a friendly bunch willing to learn!<\/p>\n
