\"Business<\/a>The College of Piping are the fourteenth recipients of Hands Up for Trad\u2019s Business Limelight Award. The \u201cLimelight\u2019s\u201d are a monthly initiative (launched in October 2012) that recognises the outstanding contributions made by businesses and organisations who contribute, shape and influence the arts and cultural sector in Scotland today. The College of Piping are 70 years old this year and have sold over 400,000 copies of their Bagpipe \u00a0Tutor 1 book – amazing!<\/p>\n

We asked Robert Wallace of the College of Piping the following questions:<\/p>\n

\"20140326-205727.jpg\"<\/a>What is your principle company activity?<\/strong>
\nFor 70 years – 2014 is our 70th Anniversary – we have been the world\u00a0centre for the teaching of the great Highland bagpipe, Scotland’s\u00a0national instrument.<\/p>\n

When and where did the company first start trading?<\/strong>
\n1944, Glasgow.<\/p>\n

What made you want to work in Scottish culture?<\/strong>
\nThere was a need for teaching, especially amongst disadvantaged\u00a0youngsters.<\/p>\n

Can you tell us of any particular company highlights?<\/strong>
\nThe publication in 1954 of the\u00a0College’s Tutor 1 book which has gone\u00a0on to be the biggest selling pipe music book of all time with over\u00a0400,000 copies sold to date.<\/p>\n

Our magazine the\u00a0Piping\u00a0Times was launched in 1948 and has been\u00a0published every month since and is the world leader in\u00a0piping\u00a0journalism.<\/p>\n

What are your company’s plans for the future?<\/strong>
\nWe are continuing to spread the bagpipe word and have recently added\u00a0an Italian version of our tutor book to our catalogue. The book has\u00a0already been published in French, German and Scots Gaelic. Other
\nlanguages to follow. We will continue to teach at home and abroad and\u00a0for as affordable cost as possible as befits our charitable status.<\/p>\n

How will you celebrate receiving Hands Up for Trad’s Business\u00a0Limelight award?<\/strong>
\nWe will shout it from the rooftops accompanied by piper….articles in\u00a0Piping\u00a0Times on the PT Editor’s Blog and on the\u00a0College\u00a0website.<\/p>\n
