This project celebrates the resilience of choirs and their communities and its aim is to promote and support creative, healthy singing communities across Scotland.
To do that, we’re looking for 5 songwriters and 5 community choirs to join us on a creative commissioning journey, to collaborate with each other and create 5 brand new, inspiring and adventurous pieces of music. The songs will be accessible and inclusive and we’ll be making professionally recorded audio and video resources to support choir leaders with their teaching and choir members with their learning. Once published, the 5 songs and the resources will be freely available for any choir to use and sing. We’ll be blogging about our experiences and findings throughout the project on this website.
Why are we making it?
Since March 2020, community choirs across the country have proved resilient, adaptable and willing to address enforced isolation by embracing new technologies; they’ve risen to the challenges of delivering messy, complicated, socially distanced singing. They’ve done this because they believe in their communities, the importance of staying connected and the power of singing together. Love Music produces Scotland’s largest community choir. Since moving online we’ve been part of this journey and have been inspired by this resilience, so we wanted to create an opportunity for ambitious and exciting creative collaboration and in doing so offer a seed of inspiration to keep us all motivated and singing over the next months and years.
We are excited to embark on this project and to share our commitment to collaboration and inclusion with you. So if you’re a member of a choir that would like to take part, or a professional songwriter who’d love the opportunity to work with community musicians to create a new song, the deadline to apply is 18th January.
