LAPWYNG are performing at the Hands Up for Trad Showcase on Saturday 10th April between 1pm and 9.30pm. You can watch them live on Hands Up for Trad’s Facebook and YouTube.
We asked LAPWYNG a few questions.
Tell Us About Yourself
LAPWYNG constantly strive to push genre boundaries with a style rooted in folk music but drawing on jazz, indie and Scandinavian influences to create a unique sound. Formed in 2018, the band is comprised of Ewen White (accordion, synths), Euan McLaughlin (fiddle, guitar) and Alasdair MacKenzie (guitar).
Based in Glasgow, LAPWYNG won the prestigious Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections in 2020 and haven’t looked back since, releasing a string of singles following their debut EP, to high acclaim.
The dynamic folk trio quickly became in-demand within the Scottish music scene, performing across the country and opening for award-winning artists including Josie Duncan, Assynt, The Paul McKenna Band and HEISK.
LAPWYNG have also previously worked with Andy Monaghan of Frightened Rabbit, which resulted in them writing and releasing their most recent single Heather & Cosmos.
What are your plans for the future?
We are currently building up to the release of our next EP “the Remyxes” which is each of the tracks from our debut release re-mixed. after this we are looking to get together and write for our debut album.
Thanks to Creative Scotland for their support in making this happen.
