{"id":2794,"date":"2017-09-26T16:18:58","date_gmt":"2017-09-26T15:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/hall-of-fame\/?p=2794"},"modified":"2017-10-12T14:38:36","modified_gmt":"2017-10-12T13:38:36","slug":"scottish-traditional-music-hall-of-fame-inductees-2017-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/hall-of-fame\/scottish-traditional-music-hall-of-fame-inductees-2017-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame Inductees 2017 Announced."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2796\" src=\"http:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/hall-of-fame\/files\/2017\/09\/Kenna-Campbell-Services-The-Gaelic-2017-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/hall-of-fame\/files\/2017\/09\/Kenna-Campbell-Services-The-Gaelic-2017-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/hall-of-fame\/files\/2017\/09\/Kenna-Campbell-Services-The-Gaelic-2017-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/hall-of-fame\/files\/2017\/09\/Kenna-Campbell-Services-The-Gaelic-2017-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/hall-of-fame\/files\/2017\/09\/Kenna-Campbell-Services-The-Gaelic-2017.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Hands Up for Trad have announced Billy Connolly amongst the 2017 Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame (sponsored by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.feisean.org\/en\/feisean-en\/\">F\u00e8isean nan G\u00e0idheal<\/a>) inductees, honouring the work and dedication of musicians and industry people who have both influenced and helped to shape Scottish traditional music throughout their lives.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 20 performers and influential trad stars will be recognised at the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame Dinner, hosted by Hands Up for Trad on Friday 27<sup>th<\/sup> October at Glasgow\u2019s \u00d2ran M\u00f3r.<\/p>\n<p>One of the best-known faces in comedy the world over, <strong>Billy Connolly,<\/strong> is joined by singer-songwriter <strong>Rab Noakes<\/strong>, <strong>Bobby Crowe<\/strong> and <strong>Cathy Ann MacPhee<\/strong> in the <em>Performers<\/em> category, alongside <strong>Jock Tamson\u2019s Bairns <\/strong>and <strong>Kenneth McKellar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other notable inductees include Matthew Fitt<\/strong> and <strong>James Robertson<\/strong> of <strong>Itchy Coo<\/strong>, which has been translating well known books into the Scots language since 2002.&nbsp; The duo will receive the <em>Services to Scots<\/em> honour for their commitment to encouraging better understanding and a greater acceptance of the Scots Language across all aspects of Scottish life.<\/p>\n<p>Award-winning singer and lifelong Gaelic advocate <strong>Kenna Campbell,<\/strong> is also being awarded for her <em>Services to Gaelic.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame first started in 2005, and celebrates the influence of the numerous musicians and industry people who have helped to make traditional music what it is today. <strong>A full list of inductees is below<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Event founder and promoter, Simon Thoumire, said<\/strong>: <em>\u201cEach year we honour a uniquely inspiring group of people and this year\u2019s list shows there\u2019s a never-ending pool of talent in Scotland. It\u2019s an honour and privilege to see so many fantastic names involved in the Scottish traditional music industry, and observe the impact they\u2019re continuing to make. We are<\/em><em> looking forward to hosting these inspirational people and their families at our Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame Dinner<\/em><em>.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tickets for the Scottish Traditional Music Hall Of Fame dinner (sponsored by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcelhinneyandco.co.uk\">McElhinney &amp; Co<\/a>) are available to buy online now via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halloffame.scot\">www.halloffame.scot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As well as celebrating established talent, Hands Up for Trad provides a platform for new and emerging artists and performers across its programme. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.handsupfortrad.scot\">Hands Up for Trad<\/a> is regularly funded by&nbsp; Creative Scotland and exists to promote Scottish Traditional Music to audiences, artists and participants through education, Information and advocacy. &nbsp;The MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards, hailed as the most prestigious awards ceremony in the traditional music calendar, returns on 2<sup>nd<\/sup> December to Paisley, as the city makes its bid for UK City of Culture 2021.<\/p>\n<p>With outstanding performances from The Elephant Sessions, The Shee Big Band, Siobhan Miller and many more, it\u2019s set to be a night to remember.
