With this vibrant interpretation, the group\u00a0unites the fiddles with the Gaelic vocals to portray the meaning and strength of the song.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally composed by Tiree bard\u00a0<strong>John<\/strong><strong>\u00a0MacLean<\/strong>\u00a0around 1877,\u00a0\u2018\u00d2ran Manitoba\u2019<em>\u00a0<\/em>gives voice to the heartbreak and injustice of the Tiree clearances, when families were forced to leave their homes for Canada. The song\u2019s themes of cultural loss and resilience resonate powerfully today, echoing ongoing challenges in the Hebrides such as the housing crisis and land ownership issues.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TEUD\u2019s arrangement, led by\u00a0<strong>Jamie MacDonald<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Claire Frances MacNeil<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Shona M<\/strong><strong>orrison<\/strong>, breathes new life into the historic song with a renewed energy and focus. The fiddle lines take centre stage throughout, particularly in\u00a0the\u00a0haunting instrumental section.This fiddle-led approach sets the track apart, offering audiences a fresh perspective on a much-loved melody that hasn\u2019t seen a major recording in a decade.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Claire Frances MacNeil said:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cWith this single and our upcoming EP, we really wanted to highlight the voice of the fiddle in Hebridean music &#8211; not just as accompaniment, but as the main storyteller. What also makes this project so special is how we each bring the influences of our own islands to the music. Jamie is from Tiree, Shona is a Skye native, and I am originally from Barra. The way the fiddle is taught, played and woven into the culture of each island has shaped how we approach this single, and it\u2019s been a joy to celebrate that shared heritage through the music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recorded at\u00a0<strong>Black Bay Studio<\/strong>\u00a0in Bernera, Isle of Lewis, and mixed by\u00a0<strong>Ross Wilson<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0<em>Tidelines<\/em>\u00a0in Mull,\u00a0\u2018\u00d2ran Manitoba\u2019\u00a0stays true to TEUD\u2019s ethos of celebrating Hebridean music within its cultural heartlands. The single was captured entirely in the Hebrides during a tour that included appearances at\u00a0<strong>Tiree Music Festival<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>HebCelt<\/strong>, and their Highland debut\u00a0including Eden Court\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Under Canvas Festival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018\u00d2ran Manitoba\u2019\u00a0offers a first glimpse of their upcoming EP, set for release in August 2025, which explores Gaelic songs and Hebridean traditions through the lens of island identity, connection to place, and cultural resilience. The EP reflects on themes of\u00a0place, language and culture\u00a0while restoring the fiddle\u2019s prominence &#8211; from leading the melody in Gaelic waltzes, to its dialogue with pipes, and its historical role in island life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shortlisted for\u00a0<em>Up and Co<\/em><em>ming Artist of the Year<\/em>\u00a0at the\u00a0<strong>2024 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards<\/strong>, TEUD continues to push the boundaries of Hebridean fiddle music, blending tradition with originality and heart.
