The result is an unique and eclectic modern-folk sound and beautiful exploration of what it means to belong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The first act is rooted in the folk world and traditions Beth grew up absorbed in. Act two follows the singer into the chaos of modern life and the love song soundtrack of angsty late teenage years, influenced by the rich tones of Amy Winehouse and London Grammar. Finally, act three heralds Beth\u2019s coming of age and an audible coming home to the songs and sounds of Scotland, as a now grown woman. The sum of these three parts is a story of Beth\u2019s heart laid bare and a musical journey captured in a way which will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on many.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>Beth Malcom said:\u00a0<\/b>\u201cCreating\u00a0<i>FOLKMOSIS<\/i> has been the joy of my life. I hope the album will remind the listener that the songs and sounds of Scotland will always be here to welcome us home whenever we feel a little lost.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Beth\u2019s inimitable vocals and beguiling spoken word are accompanied by some of Scotland\u2019s finest musicians in the folk and jazz scene.\u00a0<b><i>FOLKMOSIS\u00a0<\/i><\/b>features\u00a0<b>David Bowden<\/b>\u00a0on electric and double bass,\u00a0<b>Heather Cartwright<\/b>\u00a0on acoustic guitar,<b>\u00a0Callum Convoy<\/b>\u00a0on bodhr\u00e1n,\u00a0<b>Eryn Rae\u00a0<\/b>on fiddle,\u00a0<b>Andrew Waite\u00a0<\/b>on accordion and\u00a0<b>Laura Penman\u00a0<\/b>on clarsach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>Tiernan Courell\u00a0<\/b>is on flute, whistles and bansuri,\u00a0<b>Dorian Cloudsley<\/b>\u00a0on electric guitar,\u00a0<b>Mark Scobbie<\/b>\u00a0on drum kit,\u00a0<b>Sorcha Quartet\u00a0<\/b>on strings and\u00a0<b>Jack Badcock<\/b>\u00a0on backing vocals.\u00a0<b>Ali Levack<\/b>\u00a0lends his whistles to\u00a0<i>Hallowe&#8217;en\u00a0<\/i>and piano is shared across the album by\u00a0<b>Alan Benzie<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Dorian Cloudsley<\/b>\u00a0and Beth herself. The album was produced by\u00a0<b>Dorian Cloudsley<\/b>\u00a0and recorded by<b>\u00a0Gus Stirrat<\/b> at Solas Sound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>Beth continued: \u201c<\/b>Working with the bright musical talents of these exquisite musicians, the extraordinary arrangement and production skills of Dorian, and engineering expertise of Gus, was a real privilege. I will always remember the weeks, months and years spent on making\u00a0<i>FOLKMOSIS<\/i> into my dream album.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The first single,\u00a0<i>Edward<\/i>\u00a0&#8211; out now &#8211; comes from act one and is a traditional song which tells the tale of a heartbreaking conversation between a young man and his mother. The second single,\u00a0<i>Rolling Stone<\/i>, is about a great and enriching love. Released 1 November,\u00a0<i>Rolling Stone\u00a0<\/i>bridges the gap between acts two and three, showcasing a gentle acoustic quality that builds and swells beautifully.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The album doubles as a piece of folk-theatre which will be performed live at\u00a0<b>Perth Theatre\u00a0<\/b>on\u00a0<b>30th and 31st January 2025<\/b>, with a Glasgow show for Celtic Connections and a spring tour to be announced.<br \/>\nBorn in Perth and now based in Glasgow, Beth has been surrounded by folk music and traditions since she was in the womb. The vocalist and keys player won a coveted\u00a0<b>Danny Kyle Award\u00a0<\/b>at Celtic Connections 2019<b>\u00a0<\/b>and was named\u00a0<b>Scots Singer of the Year<\/b>\u00a0at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards in 2022. She has collaborated with a number of Scotland\u2019s finest outfits including Fat-Suit and Adam Holmes, and sang with Gaelic electronic pioneers Niteworks on the hit track\u00a0<i>John Riley\u00a0<\/i>and has toured extensively. Recently, Beth has lended her voice to new electronic musical project LUSA.
