
{"id":7179,"date":"2024-09-12T11:04:54","date_gmt":"2024-09-12T10:04:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/folkwaves\/?p=7179"},"modified":"2024-09-12T11:04:57","modified_gmt":"2024-09-12T10:04:57","slug":"standing-still-by-manran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/folkwaves\/standing-still-by-manran\/","title":{"rendered":"Standing Still by M\u00e0nran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium alignright wp-image-7180\" src=\"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/folkwaves\/files\/2024\/09\/Manran_Standing-Still-300x300.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/folkwaves\/files\/2024\/09\/Manran_Standing-Still-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/folkwaves\/files\/2024\/09\/Manran_Standing-Still-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/folkwaves\/files\/2024\/09\/Manran_Standing-Still-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/folkwaves\/files\/2024\/09\/Manran_Standing-Still-24x24.jpg 24w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/folkwaves\/files\/2024\/09\/Manran_Standing-Still-36x36.jpg 36w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/folkwaves\/files\/2024\/09\/Manran_Standing-Still-48x48.jpg 48w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/folkwaves\/files\/2024\/09\/Manran_Standing-Still.jpg 1000w\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Award-winning folk supergroup <b>M\u00e0nran<\/b> have announced they will release an uplifting new single, <b><i>Standing Still<\/i><\/b> on <b>Friday 20 September<\/b>, marking the start of a slight change in musical direction for the celebrated Scottish outfit.<\/p>\n<p>The upbeat folk-pop number, written by the band\u2019s <b>Kim Carnie<\/b> and <b>Aidan Moodie<\/b>, is the first in a string of singles to be released ahead of the band\u2019s landmark appearance at the first ever <b>Hoolie in New York<\/b> at Carnegie Hall next April.<\/p>\n<p>The record-breaking band continues to grow in popularity and win new fans around the globe captivated by their eclectic mix of musical influences and charismatic stage presence.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Standing Still<\/i><\/b> sees the unstoppable seven-piece create a single \u2013 their first original new material since 2022 \u2013 that is grounded in their Celtic roots, but with a distinct contemporary quality.<\/p>\n<p>Kim\u2019s unmistakable lead vocals and Aidan\u2019s skilled driving guitar are joined on the track by the deft, flawless instrumental accompaniment of M\u00e0nran\u2019s remaining members \u2013 namely <b>Ewen Henderson<\/b> on fiddle, <b>Gary Innes<\/b> on accordion, <b>Marcus Cordock<\/b> on bass guitar, <b>Ryan Murphy<\/b> on Uilleann pipes and flute and <b>Mark Scobbie<\/b> on drums.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Standing Still<\/i><\/b> is a song about trying to look at the breakdown of a long-term relationship in an objective light; re-evaluating the feelings you had for someone when you were head over heels, and about coming to terms with the fact that, once the haze of love has cleared, that you weren\u2019t right for one another.<\/p>\n<p>The band\u2019s latest release coincides with their performance at <b>Lochaber Live<\/b> in Fort William, the first edition of the festival in 30 years, having been lovingly rebooted by the band\u2019s very own <b>Gary Innes<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>M\u00e0nran<\/b> have a string of live performances lined up throughout autumn and winter, including tours across Scotland and England and the band\u2019s third performance on Scotland\u2019s biggest stage &#8211; Glasgow\u2019s OVO Hydro &#8211; as part of Hoolie in the Hydro 2024.<\/p>\n<p><b>Kim Carnie said:<\/b> \u201cOver the years, M\u00e0nran have developed their sound with various writers and members bringing different influences to the table. Aidan and I love pop music so it\u2019s been a lot of fun to work on new material for M\u00e0nran that combines the band&#8217;s Scottish sound with more of a pop leaning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had the pleasure of working with producer Ross Hamilton to really bring our vision to life and capture the contemporary sound we were after, while retaining the heart of the group. Standing Still is a reflective and hopeful song that I think a lot of people will relate to but also that anyone can enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Aidan Moodie said:<\/b> \u201cWe\u2019re especially looking forward to performing the single live for the very first time at what will be a hometown show for Gary and Ewen \u2013 the newly rebooted Lochaber Live. Performing live has always been at the core of what we do and how we connect with our audiences and we hope to see as many people as we can out on the road before the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels like a really exciting time for Scottish music as a whole right now, with so many traditional bands playing huge, iconic arenas and venues and it\u2019s incredible to be a part of that. M\u00e0nran has been going for 15 years this year but we continue to find new audiences and we hope fans both old and new will like what they hear with <b><i>Standing Still<\/i><\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Having spent 15 years at the heart of the Scottish traditional music scene and with four hugely successful studio albums under their belt, M\u00e0nran are internationally recognised as one of the most iconic and respected Scottish bands on the road today.<\/p>\n<p>The seven-piece show no signs of slowing down as they continue to push boundaries and explore new musical and geographical territory each year, bringing their uplifting and unique live performances to stages across the world.<\/p>\n<p>Having played in over 30 countries, including the USA, Asia and Australia, the multifaceted musical powerhouse have amassed a loyal fanbase worldwide for their self-penned tunes performed on a mixture of traditional and modern instruments, alongside their outstanding songs in both Gaelic and English.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Standing Still<\/i><\/b> was recorded and produced at <b>Buzzkiller Music<\/b> in Paisley by <b>Ross Hamilton<\/b> (Robbie Williams, Olly Murs).<\/p>\n<p>The single will be available to download and on all major streaming sites from <b>Friday 20 September 2024<\/b>.
