I’ve been sitting on this recording for almost three years, and wanted to release it to coincide with Taylor visiting Edinburgh. Despite studying Traditional Music, Taylor’s music has influenced me for almost fifteen years. She’s previously discussed her Scottish lineage. I wonder what she’d think of the translation!”

Award-winning Scottish folksinger Iona Fyfe has released a Scots Language translation of Taylor Swift’s classic country-pop song, Love Story. Census data published in May showed that respondents who stated they could speak Scots Language was up from 30% (2011) to 46%. Current reigning winner of the title of Scots Singer of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2023, Iona has been at the forefront of the campaign for a Scots Language Act. The Scottish Government will introduce the new Scottish Languages Bill, legally recognising Scots and Gaelic as minority languages in the coming year.

Artist website: https://ionafyfe.com/

Single title: Love Story (Scots Version)
Album title:
Release Date: 05/06/2024
Single artist: Iona Fyfe
Single duration: 3:57
Record Label: Cairnie Music
Catalogue No: IFLOVE24
Writers: Taylor Swift – translated by Iona Fyfe
Publishers: n/a
Explicit?: No

Search Terms: {Search terms:18}

Follow these topics: contemporary, Featured release, fiddle, folk band, Guitar, banjo etc, miscellaneous, Newsletter, piano, Releases, Scots language song, Scottish songs, Scottish Traditions and Culture, songwriter

The release Love Story (Scots Version) coincides with Taylor Swift beginning the UK stint of her globally groundbreaking Eras Tour.
