The release Love Story (Scots Version) coincides with Taylor Swift beginning the UK stint of her globally groundbreaking Eras Tour. \n\u201cAt a time when our language is becoming more popular than ever, it makes sense to do something different and show that the language is living and ever-changing. I\u2019ve been sitting on this recording for almost three years, and wanted to release it to coincide with Taylor visiting Edinburgh. Despite studying Traditional Music, Taylor\u2019s music has influenced me for almost fifteen years. She\u2019s previously discussed her Scottish lineage. I wonder what she\u2019d think of the translation!\u201d<\/p>\n
Award-winning Scottish folksinger Iona Fyfe has released a Scots Language translation of Taylor Swift\u2019s classic country-pop song, Love Story. Census data published in May showed that respondents who stated they could speak Scots Language was up from 30% (2011) to 46%. Current reigning winner of the title of Scots Singer of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2023, Iona has been at the forefront of the campaign for a Scots Language Act. The Scottish Government will introduce the new Scottish Languages Bill, legally recognising Scots and Gaelic as minority languages in the coming year.<\/p>\n
