\"\"Respected trad fusion band<\/span> DL\u00d9<\/b><\/span> (pronounced dloo) have announced the release of their latest single <\/span>Mogaisean<\/i><\/b>,<\/i> hailing the start of a new era for the Glasgow-based five-piece.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Released on<\/span> Thursday 16 May 2024,<\/b><\/span> Mogaisean<\/i> <\/span>is the first single from the band\u2019s upcoming second album<\/span> Close To<\/i><\/b><\/span> which will be launched in June at SWG3 Warehouse in Glasgow.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>DL\u00d9\u2019s<\/b><\/span> energetic single<\/span> Mogaisean<\/i><\/span> is their take on<\/span> \u00d2ran nam Mogaisean<\/i> <\/span>(The Song of the Moccasins<\/i>) composed by Murdo MacArthur. The revamped traditional Gaelic song has been infused with elements of dance and pop to create a wholly unique sound.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>The band believe that this new body of work will captivate both Gaelic speakers and enthusiasts of traditional music, alongside people who are perhaps not regular consumers of Scottish traditional music, thanks to the more modern musical influences on this classic song.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Comprising of<\/span> Moilidh NicGriogair<\/b> (fiddle), Zach Ronan<\/b> (accordion, backing vocals), Aidan Spiers<\/b> (guitar, backing vocals), Se\u00f2ras Chlad<\/b> (bass, backing vocals) and Andrew Grossart<\/b> (drum kit, percussion)<\/span>, with special guest<\/span> Joseph McCluskey<\/b>\u2019s lead vocals on the track, the band\u2019s eclectic musical backgrounds influence their original melodies and arrangements.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>DL\u00d9<\/b><\/span> released their debut album<\/span> Moch<\/i><\/span> in February 2022 which has been widely recognised with international radio plays, nominations and reviews. Recognising that<\/span> Moch was<\/i><\/span> marked by experimentation, DL\u00d9 have been honing their new musical direction over the past year having sought the advice of producer<\/span> Pete Fletcher<\/b> who recommended taking inspiration from the structure within dance music tracks. Taking this onboard, the band also drafted the inimitable Duncan Lyall<\/b> who incorporates synths, creating more cohesion within the tracks.<\/p>\n

Zach Ronan<\/b> <\/span>of DL\u00d9 said:<\/b><\/span> \u201cI first heard<\/span> \u00d2ran nam Mogaisea<\/i>n at the Glasgow F\u00e8is from Joy Dunlop when I was just a wee lad and I loved it! It really left a lasting impression as it is an absolute earworm and it was in my head for weeks. As soon as I suggested it to the band, we were all sold, knowing there was ample room for creativity and the opportunity to put an exciting and fresh modern influence on it. It went through a series of transformations before settling into the version we ultimately recorded. For us, Pete’s production finesse and Duncan’s synth wizardry were the magic ingredients that pulled it all together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Mogaisean<\/i><\/b> <\/span>was recorded between<\/span> Black Bay Studio<\/b> on the Isle of Lewis and GloWorm Recording Studio<\/b>in Glasgow.<\/p>\n
