A tune based on a poem by Donegal writer Patrick MacGill – The Woe of It<\/p>\n
Sweet was the mavis\u2019 song of eld,
\nAnd how the woodlands thrilled with it!
\nSweeter the song of the girl I held
\nClose to the heard that filled with it<\/p>\n
Methinks the rose leant from the wall
\nTo kiss the lily brow of hers;
\nAnd through the years I can recall
\nThe softly whispered vow of hers.<\/p>\n
We saw the evening fade afar,
\nAnd parting, never met again;
\nAnd ere we meet, how many a star
\nShall rise again and set again.<\/p>\n
The mavis\u2019 song but brings regret,
\nThe fading rose must know of it:
\nFor she is gone \u2013 I can\u2019t forget,
\nAnd \u2013 ah! The bitter woe of it!<\/p>\n
Gr\u00e1inne Brady is an Irish fiddle player and composer from Co. Cavan, based in Glasgow. Gr\u00e1inne plays in a variety of different bands including MG Alba Scots Trad Awards nominees Top Floor Taivers, string group The Routes Quartet, and Gaeilge\/G\u00e0idhlig supergroup LAS. Gr\u00e1inne\u2019s debut album, \u2018The Road Across the Hills\u2019, released in February 2019, has already been met with hugely positive reviews and she performed the material at Glasgow\u2019s prestigious Celtic Connections 2019 festival as part of the New Voices series. She also performed on BBC Alba\u2019s Seirm TV show, due for broadcast in 2019.
