Kate Young and Rapha\u00ebl Decoster together form an exciting blend of original and folk-influenced music. The French accordion dialogs with the Scottish fiddle and Kate’s voice with an intimate spontaneity, which invites us to discover their hidden stories and landscapes. They create melodies and songs through their interest for visual arts as well as traditional music, and this combination is the base of their fresh and poetical music.<\/p>\n
Recorded in Midlothian, the duo will release their debut album, les objets trouv\u00e9s in June accompanying a UK tour. The record is the result of many years of creating stories, journeys, musical creativity of a wayward and unexpected nature. Kate & Rapha\u00ebl form a rare sound of intimacy, playfulness and depth.<\/p>\n
Kate is a Scottish singer, fiddle player and composer who explores the combination of voice with her fiddle-playing whilst applying knowledge of world traditions with her own compositions. Kate is part of the project Songs of Separation (winners of BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for ‘Best Album’) and Kate in the Kettle.<\/p>\n
Rapha\u00ebl is from Lille in the North of France and plays with French Bal-folk band, Zlabya and duo Peut-\u00eatre Jeanne. Self-taught musician, Rapha\u00ebl Decoster started playing the accordion in 2006, discovering at the same time a passion for folk music and dance.
\nHis approach to music is spontaneous, visual and emotional. His compositions are based on stories that change depending on the time and place.<\/p>\n
