Despite its success today, full production at the distillery had to be ceased in 1968 due to chronic water shortages. However in 1972 distillery manager Joe Hughes along with Alec ‘digger’ Grant discovered the ‘Silent Spring of Coutens Farm’, a stream that could not be easily seen or heard but could supply sufficient water to meet demand.

Strand is the new album from genre-hopping bass player and composer James Lindsay. Known as an in-demand session musician as well as full-time member of award winning folk band Breabach this will be his debut release as composer and band leader. It’s a fully self-penned, darkly atmospheric blend of instrumental folk and contemporary-jazz which explores unusual settings of traditional melodic ideas and improvisations. The album was recorded In December 2016 at the newly opened GloWorm Studios in Glasgow with engineer Iain Hutchison (Transatlantic Sessions) and features James on double bass along with Hamish Napier (flute/keys), Adam Sutherland (fiddle), Scott Mackay (drums), Ben Macdonald (guitar) and Tom Gibbs (keys). Mixing and mastering was completed in Brooklyn, New York by renowned jazz producer Michael Perez-Cisneros (Gilad Hekselman, Julian Shore).

Artist website: http://www.jameslindsaymusic.com

Single title: The Silent Spring
Album title: Strand
Release Date: 02/06/2017
Single artist: James Lindsay
Single duration: 4.58
Record Label: OIR RECORDINGS
Catalogue No: OIRCD001
Writers: James Lindsay
Publishers: PRS
Explicit?: NO

Search Terms:

Follow these topics: contemporary, Featured release, Releases

Oldmeldrum, a town in the North-East of Scotland not far from where I grew up, is home to one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries and produces the well known whisky, Glen Garioch (Garioch being the name given to this committee area in Aberdeenshire).
