From Virginia. They’re rambunctious but tight string band with a hard-driving hoedown sensibility that draws on old-time traditions but, as songs such as I Wouldn’t Take Her To A Dogfight illustrate, doesn’t let reverence stand in the way of a good time. As skilful (with fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, a communal double bass and a washboard-drum kit rhythmic clatter) as they are witty, they’re hot alright. And irresistible. Oh and 4 of the 5 band members play ed double bass at some point in the show a trick that few bands can claim.
Support came from Dundee’s own Boogalusa a six-piece band playing their own original music based on rootsy cajun/zydeco blues tinged, swampland swing. With the emphasis on up tempo, in-your-face, get-up-and-dance fervour. Boogalusa retain their knack for providing a set to get even the most leaden footed toes tapping.
