The first event of the Showcase Scotland programme, this is an ideal opportunity to meet some of the 200 international delegates (largely festival and event buyers and programmers) who are in town for the conference.

Sign up: http://civicreception2018.eventbrite.co.uk

(This reception is also free to attend, however requires an additional sign-up to ensure accurate numbers for catering.)

WHY SHOULD I ATTEND?

Whilst the folk sector in Scotland is a hugely successful and, for many, fruitful one – so too is it drastically understaffed by comparison to other genres. Festivals and audiences are in abundance, and there is an ever growing international interest in the music Scotland is producing, yet there is a significant lack of professional infrastructure to support and fully develop artists’ careers. Agencies are at capacity, and there are next to no artist managers – and, as such, many musicians and groups are self-represented or self-managed. With those duties alongside a live career, many are often stretched too thin across a number of disciplines in order to fully maximise their opportunities.

It is for these reasons that Showcase Scotland exists – to bring the world’s folk music industry to Glasgow, to connect with our artists and industry. The 2018 Artists Day will go one step further, offering discussions and insights into many of the key issues and practices in the music business, instilling a greater understanding of both the wider scene and support networks available to artists.

WHAT’S THE CATCH?

No catch – we’re here to help. Thanks to Help Musicians UK, Celtic Connections and the Scottish Music Centre, the event is free to attend – though we do ask you to register and confirm attendance, for both the panel events and civic reception separately, so that we can manage numbers.

SIGN-UP

Daytime panels: http://artistsday2018.eventbrite.co.uk

Showcase Scotland Civic Reception: http://civicreception2018.eventbrite.co.uk

ALSO… SHOWCASE SCOTLAND TRADE FAIR – limited space remaining!

We have just 12 Trade Stand spaces remaining at the Showcase Scotland Trade Fair, taking place on Friday 2nd February in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
