The Goderich Celtic Roots Festival in Ontario, Canada has announced its inaugural “Robinson Emerging Artist Showcase”, a new opportunity for artists in the early stage of their career, in a unique two-phase performance opportunity.
Undeterred by the challenges of a pandemic, the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival continues innovative programming. In keeping with the festival’s commitment to Celtic Arts education, the “Robinson Emerging Artist Showcase” will provide professional development workshops and mentorship by industry professionals throughout the months leading up to the event.
The program has two phases: a virtual phase and a showcase phase. A shortlist of 10 artists will be shown in virtual format during this year’s festival, August 6-8, 2021. An audience poll will determine the top two artists who will go on to receive a year of artist development workshops and mentorship before appearing onstage in next year’s festival.
Now in it’s 29th year, the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival and College is a week-long Celtic College with some of the best Celtic artists from around the world teaching a range of Celtic instruments — including bagpipes, tin whistle, fiddle, bodhrán (Irish drum), and traditional song, dance. The event is family-friendly and includes a Celtic Kids Camp. The week culminates with the renowned three-day Festival, with performances by headline acts.
